Home Reach brings home ownership within reach for Cheshire Buyers

A property seeker has made the move from Stoke-on-Trent to Alsager using heylo’s Home Reach scheme in partnership with Barratt Homes.

Sarah Bardsley (51) was renting a flat in Hanley after health issues following a brain aneurysm burst left her unable to work for a period of time. However emergency brain surgery and determination meant she got back into a career as a secretary at Heywood Hospital.

Concerned that she wouldn’t be able to get back on the property ladder, Sarah found out about the Home Reach scheme through social media and started looking for properties under the heylo initiative. She recently purchased a property using Home Reach at Barratt Homes’ Lloyd Mews development, located on Dunnocksfold Road in Alsager.

The Home Reach scheme provides an affordable way to step onto the property ladder via a part-buy part-rent agreement with a private landlord. The scheme has already helped thousands of new buyers make their move into the market since it launched in 2014.

Sarah said, “The Home Reach scheme was vital in helping me get on the property ladder following what has been a difficult time with for me. As I only work part time it meant I could move from renting a one bedroom flat to purchasing a three bedroom home in a lovely area.”

Having looked at a number of new build properties, she saw that she could purchase using Home Reach at Lloyd Mews after driving past the development.

She continued, “A new build home meant I would have less to worry about with the maintenance or renovating it to my taste as I could personalise it using the Choices range and there is a warranty in place.

“Christine and Ann, the Sales Advisers at Lloyd Mews were so helpful and explained everything to me and I knew when I saw the development that it was beautifully laid out and the quality was really high.”

Sarah is now living in Maidstone style home at Lloyd Mews with her dog Tinkerbell. The property gives her space for her children and grandchildren to visit which her previous flat didn’t.

“There is a really friendly community at the development, but it’s so peaceful and quiet which is really important to me and I’m enjoying being so close to the countryside. It’s great for dog walks!

I didn't think i could afford to buy after my divorce but i have a gorgeous new home now thanks to Home Reach

After her divorce, Dawn McMullen didn’t think she could afford to buy on her own, but she’s now moved to her perfect home at Linden Homes’ Montbray development in Barnstaple, thanks to the Home Reach scheme.

 Dawn, “55 years young”, is an NHS senior healthcare assistant at Barnstaple Hospital. Speaking about her experience, she said: “I was married and we owned our home but when we divorced I found it very difficult to buy with just one salary contributing to a mortgage; the figures just didn’t seem to stack up.  What’s worse is that I hated renting, it was painful to be paying off someone else’s mortgage rather than my own.  

 “I worked consistently and saved up a good deposit but I found myself unable to get out of the renting cycle for eight years and I disliked the lack of control. I used to pay £475 per month for a one bedroom ground floor apartment in Westward Ho! It had night storage heating so it always felt cold and I dreamed of living somewhere warm and comfortable, where I could fix things when I wanted to and decorate how I pleased.”

 She added: “I viewed lots of properties and visited every development locally but Montbray really stood out to me. After speaking to Denise, the sales executive, I learnt about Home Reach, a part-rent-part-buy scheme, and was over the moon that I could afford to buy a beautiful two bedroom apartment at Montbray.

 “I’ve had a great experience moving with Linden Homes and Home Reach has enabled me to get the extra space I need. I have a mortgage on 50 per cent of my home and pay a low monthly rent on the other half. It’s a fantastic scheme and I love the flexibility it provides, as I can easily pay more into the property at any time but know it is mine and that I’ve invested wisely.

Everything’s low maintenance – I’m certainly no plumber or electrician and to have everything finished so well is a great comfort, especially to my children, who are always looking out for me. My daughter lives in Torrington and my son is in Exeter, an easy train ride away, so it’s brilliant to be close by and I have a spare room now so my grandsons can stay as well.

 “My new home is gorgeous, it has a fabulous layout and I have to pinch myself that I’ve managed to move and reduce my commute to work at the same time.

 “Home Reach has given me the opportunity to buy a new home and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve had a great experience and want to shout about it so others are aware of how helpful the scheme is – I couldn’t have moved without it.”

What is Home Reach?

With Home Reach, you buy a share of your chosen home and pay a low monthly rent on the part you don't buy. You get to choose whether you buy a bigger share of a lower priced home or a smaller share of a more expensive one.

New home buying scheme is the dream solution for Staffordshire family

A Staffordshire family have been able to buy their dream Bovis Home thanks to a special purchasing scheme which gives house hunters the opportunity to get their foot on the property ladder.

Helen and Gavin Harrington-Jones were keen to buy their first home, but as a family of five that grows to seven at the weekend, saving a deposit for a house which would suit their needs seemed impossible. Until, that is, they discovered the Home Reach scheme at Bovis Homes’ Sancerre Grange location in Eccleshall.

“For the property size we were looking for, we would have been saving up for ages,” says Helen, an HR business partner. “When looking for houses all we could find were three-bedroom homes, but we really needed something bigger. While looking online one day, I discovered a house perfect for us – it was a four-bed available through Home Reach and was just what we were looking for!”

In partnership with housing provider, heylo, Bovis Homes offers the Home Reach scheme at a variety of its locations on a selected range of properties. Purchasers can part-buy part-rent their new home, with the option to increase their level of ownership at any time.

“We had a look around Sancerre Grange and had a chat with the sales advisors to find out more about the homes and the scheme - it was exactly what we were looking for,” says Helen. “The Home Reach scheme was perfect. It’s at our time of life that you need a home with lots of space – but it can be hard to financially afford it.”

Helen and Gavin, who is a postman, reserved the four-bedroom Canterbury, which was the ideal home for them and their children Lexie (11), Lizzie (9), Ellis (4), as well as Noah (12) and Meghan (20), who often visit at weekends.

“The whole process was so simple, and the team were great,” says Helen. “Rachael in the sales centre was fantastic at accommodating us when we visited with the kids to show them around our new home.”

Moving from their rented three-bedroom house six miles away in Stone, the family soon settled into their new house.

“It’s our dream home,” says Helen. “There are enough bedrooms for all the kids and space for friends when they come to stay. When Noah and Megan visit they can have their own space. There is even a downstairs study which means I have a place to go when I work from home.”

“We’re really enjoying living in Eccleshall, it’s a lovely town. We’re within walking distance of the kids’ new schools and there are lots of shops and local amenities. We love it here!”
