Winterise your outdoor taps

Outdoor taps can often be forgotten, however, a frozen outdoor tap can cause a lot of issues to your home if it bursts or leaks. There are steps you can take to prevent this which we have shared for you here.

A few simple steps can save you from costly damage later down the line if your outdoor tap was to burst. They include:

1.  Most outdoor taps have a shut off valve inside your home which will stop the water supply to the tap.

2.  Disconnect any hoses that are attached to the outdoor tap and empty any water that is sat in the hose pipe. If you have space, store the hose pipe somewhere dry to prevent any damage over the winter months.

3.  Once you have used the shut off valve, open the outdoor tap to allow any standing water to drain out before turning it off again.

4.  As an extra measure, you can put an outdoor tap cover which will add a layer of protection of the tap from the cold weather. These can be purchased online or at a home maintenance store.
