Energy saving solutions

People add energy saving solutions to their homes for many reasons. According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero from January 2013 to November 2024, 4,138,311 ECO measures have been installed to households, totalling 2,525,171 individual ECO households.

Here are some tips on additions you may be able to make to your home that could reduce your monthly bills and your impact on the environment.

1.  Add a smart thermostat

A smart thermostat is a device that connects to your wifi. The most basic versions allow you to preset your heating schedule. However, because they are connected to the internet, you are able to adjust them remotely, when you are away from the home.

Some smart thermostats also come with other features that can vary from draught detection and multi-room control to hot water control and safety and holiday modes to take care of your home when you are away. 2.  Energy efficient lighting

Changing your lightbulbs from incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs can bring a multitude of benefits including:

  • LED bulbs use up to 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.
  • LED bulbs can last from 10,000 to 50,000 hours, that is up to 25 times more than incandescent bulbs.
  • Incandescent bulbs emit up to 90% of their energy as heat. Not only will the LED bulb be more resourceful, it will reduce the emission of heat during the warmer months.
